Phillies legend Roberts passes away at 83
Hall of Fame pitcher Robin Roberts, the greatest right-hander in Phillies history, died this morning in his Temple Terrace, Fla., home from natural causes. He was 83.
Mr. Roberts pitched 19 years in the Major Leagues, the first 14 with the Phillies (1948-61). He also pitched for the Baltimore Orioles (1962-65), Houston Astros (1965-66) and Chicago Cubs (1966).
He had a 286-245 career record with a 3.41 ERA for 676 games (609 starts). His Phillies record: 234-199. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976 and returned every year for the annual induction ceremonies.
