Hilary Rosen’s Pro-Romney Bumper Sticker

politics

If you’ve been reading The Daily Cocca for a while you know I’ve been critical of Mitt Romney.  Who hasn’t? Like everyone else, I’m critical of President Obama, too.

Whatever you think of the candidates, let’s agree that their spouses and families are off-limits.   Let’s also agree that Hilary Rosen’s comments about Ann Romney were way off-base and very out of touch.  Ironic that this post finds me calling a critic of Romney’s out of touch on an economic issue, given that the former Massachusetts governor  makes 50 grand a day.  But there you have it.

The President himself weighed in:

“There is no tougher job than being a mom,” President Obama told a Cedar Rapids television station, mentioning his own wife and mother. He added, “I don’t have a lot of patience for commentary about the spouses of political candidates. My general view is those of us who are in the public life, we’re fair game. Our families are civilians.”

The President is right, of course.  And so is Ann Romney.

For the Romney campaign’s part, it looks as though they’ve finally hired their first communications professional:

  1. Ann Romney may be a GREAT mom. However, has she ever not had the money to buy clothes for her family? Has she ever missed work because there was no one else to take the kids to a doctors appt? Has she ever missed PTA meetings because she didn’t have the money for gas? Has she ever had to choose which food to buy because there wasn’t enough money for all the items? Does it discredit her has a mom if the answers to these questions are no- Of course not, but for the rest of us it makes us irritated that we as working moms in and outside of the house NEVER get this much discussion about what our days are like even still in 2012. GET REAL- Give me a break! less
